To become a House and Pet Sitter

If you love animals and have 15 - 20 years experience caring for them then, Pet Sitting could be what you are looking for! Our Pet Sitters are single females, single males and couples who are looking to earn extra money doing something they enjoy. To assist you we have put together some of the questions frequently asked by potential sitters.

How long do petsitting bookings last?

We have no minimum or maximum booking which gives our clients greater flexibility. New clients to the Animal Angels house and pet sitting service will often book for a long weekend to start with. This introduces them to the service and gives them confidence to book for longer periods. We endeavour to give our clients the same house and pet sitter on each subsequent booking, which, in turn, builds our sittersclient base.

How often could I expect bookings?

Your availability must be for a minimum of 16 weeks per year. Bookings are available all year round and we can accommodate applicants looking for continuous work. Our house and pet sitters are under no obligation to take any booking that is offered to them.

Am I insured whilst on a pet sitting booking

Yes, as a company we have comprehensive insurances covering all aspects of our house and pet sitting service.

My dog is very well behaved, could I take him with me?

Unfortunately no, alternative arrangements have to be made for your own animals.

What experience do I need?

Our house and pet sitting bookings range from the care of one cat through to a variety of farm yard animals. Experience with some household pets is essential but you can be confident that our support staff take great care in matching your abilities with that of the client's requirements.

As this is a very responsible position would you require
us to be police checked?

Yes, it is now common throughout the house and pet sitting industry, as it provides clients with the peace of mind that the person they are trusting to care for their home and animals does not have a police record.

Do I meet the client before the booking?

Yes, the preliminary meeting with the client is very important. It allows you to meet the client in their own home to discuss their house and pet sitting requirements in more detail.

Will my travelling costs be paid for?

Travelling costs will be paid at 35p per mile for each journey made in connection with the booking. A typical cost is £20.00, but cannot exceed £50.00. If you are using public transport, your economy class fare will be reimbursed.

What remuneration can I expect to receive?

The basic daily rate is £27.00 (excluding travelling expenses) and is paid to you directly by the client. The remuneration covers the care of the client's home and a couple of small household pets e.g. hamster, goldfish or rabbit. This amount increases according to the amount of animals that you are caring for. For example, to care for a clients home, one dog two cats and a tank of goldfish for ten days, you would receive the following:

£27.00 basic fee - £1.75 per dog and £1.00 per cat, bringing the total to £29.75. For the ten days you would receive £297.50 plus travelling expenses. Unless the requirements of the client warrant two people the above payment will be applicable to couples.

Will I have time to explore my surroundings?

The client's home must not be left unoccupied for any period exceeding three consecutive daylight hours in any twenty- four hour period. This gives you three daylight hours per day to explore your surroundings and make use of the local amenities. Any duties that require you to leave the premises such as dog walking are not included in the three hours taken for private purposes.

What happens if I have a problem whilst on a booking?

During bookings our Support Team keep in touch to ensure that everything is running smoothly. Outside office hours a senior member of the team is on hand to help, should you require assistance.

Can I take my partner with me?

We have a large number of couples that house and pet sit together. The interview process will be the same for both of you and you both have to obtain a police check.
